Section Deep Dive

AmaQithi izibongo and mixed memory layers

Current AmaQithi izibongo are treated as living memory that carries both San-linked continuity and Thembu historical layering.

Why mixed layers are expected

Frontier lineages formed through long periods of alliance and incorporation. Mixed praise-name structures are therefore evidence of historical process, not loss of authenticity.

Oral transmission and resilience

Izibongo persisted through displacement, renaming pressure, and archive loss because they were transmitted through social practice rather than paper systems alone.
